*Ochiai Village Guided Tour reservations are currently unavailable.

Soba making experience

The environment of Iya, with its many cliffs, was not suitable for making rice paddies, but is instead suitable for growing buckwheat. In Iya, high-quality buckwheat with a strong sweetness and aroma has grown, and buckwheat has become a representative agricultural product of Iya.
Iya soba is made without using much flour or other "binder" in the buckwheat noodle making process, so each buckwheat noodle is thicker and shorter than the others.
In this experience program, you will make soba noodles in the house of a person living in the Ochiai village where the inn is located, using tools that have been used for a long time. In this hands-on program, freshly made soba noodles are served on the spot.

Time required: Approximately one and a half hours
Experience fee: 1 set ¥ 15,000 (tax included)

※The fee is paid at the time of check-in together with the accommodation fee.

Ochiai Village Guided Tour

Reservations are currently unavailable.

The Ochiai village, where the inn is located, is a cliff village with a height difference of about 390 meters, and old private houses built in the middle to late Edo period are still scattered around the cliff.
These old private houses have the structure and floor plan peculiar to the mountain village, and have a unique landscape combined with the undulating village road, the surrounding stone walls and cultivated land.
In 2005, the rarity of such a historical landscape was evaluated, and the entire village was selected as an important traditional buildings preservation district (judenken district).
We will take a walk in the mountain village of Iya and the Ochiai village with the people of the Judenken Preservation Society who live in Ochiai.

Time required: Approximately 1 hour
Guide fee: ¥ 7,500 (tax included)

Guides are available only in Japanese. Thank you for your understanding in advance.

Prices are for up to 10 people per group.

For groups of 4 or more, you will need to drive by your own vehicle on the way of the tour.

There are some bumpy places in the village, so please wear comfortable shoes.

In case of rain, we may cancel the event at our discretion.

The fee is paid at the time of check-in together with the accommodation fee. If the event is canceled due to bad weather, etc., the full amount will be refunded.

In principle, tours will be held from around 10:00 a.m. after check-out or after the second night.
